Complicating Your Health 101

Pick a fad, any fad! Intermittent fasting, bullet proof coffee, Ketosis supplementing, high interval training, CBD oils, carnivore diet, B12 shots, magnets, PH specific

water…you name it.

With social media, podcasts, push notifications, webinars, and unlimited data, the world is our oyster. The “catch” with access to unlimited information at the click of a button is that it can feel like drinking from a firehose. Being an “all in” type of person, I particularly sympathize with those of you who feel like the more information you have access to, the less you know and the more you have to do.

I have conversations everyday with parents, entrepreneurs, athletes, hard workers, and lovers of the healthy lifestyle who are frequently caught up in the hottest dangling proverbial golden carrot of health.

We live in a paradigm of pills, potions and lotions, where quick fixes, just like instant access, are expected.

I get it. I enjoy my bullet proof coffee and 10 minute mediations. I run because it’s faster than walking and I diffuse frankincense to cheat the system and de-stressing my family after work, soccer practices, track meets and getting the dog to and from doggy daycare.

We are hot for the latest craze because we’re experts at integrating and multitasking. I do wonder, however, if collectively, we have a tendency to put the cart before the horse when it comes to how we set the stage for ideal health. What if the latest “thing” distracts us from our basic, most natural genetic requirements?

Sleep - real food - hydration - walking 20 minutes/day and movement - proper breathing - hugs - laughter - gratitude - play.

We are born to thrive, but can only do this when our basic requirements are not being sabotaged. Not allowing ourselves our most basic, natural needs negates all the effort and money we pour into the latest promise of bathing in the fountain of youth.

They say that clarity is the great accelerator. What if we spent some time become clear about the meeting of our basic needs? High rises must be built on solid foundations and when they’re built on sand, they crumble regardless of how perfect and shiny they are.

For the sake of simplicity, can we reacquaint ourselves with our elemental needs and then maybe we’ll get fancy?
